While Josephine Sacabo's photographs are often visually and psychologically calming, they resonate with energy.
The viewer is continually seduced by her warm tones and elegant figures yet becomes caught up in the pathos
just under the surface. These photographs were directly inspired by her passion for Rilke's Duino Elegies. Rilke,
a Symbolist like Sacabo, was the finest poet writing in German in the 20th Century, and The Duino Elegies was
his masterpiece. This translation by the great Welsh poet Leslie Norris and the noted German scholar Alan Keele
renders Rilke's complex and often poorly translated work back into the moving poetry that it is.
