Ruth Bernhard vintage print:
Two Leaves
Gelatin silver photograph, very early print, image 9 1/2 x 7 1/8 drymounted to the original period crescent
board. Signed in pencil on the front of the mount; signed titled and with the artist's copyright stamp on verso.
(The zip code in the artist's address indicates this print is prior to 1964.) Only a few extant vintage prints of
this image, to the best of our knowledge.
Provenance: From the estate of Wynn Bullock to John Stevenson to the current owner in 2004.
Condition and regarding a hairline scratch in the negative: From a letter from John Stevenson Gallery dated
November 1, 2004. "On the Ruth Bernhard Two Leaves: I sent it to one of the leading conservators, Nancy Wu,
for examination. The print is indeed in excellent condition; the hariline scratch in the lower left corner is not in the
print, but the original negative."
